orld, leaves pieces of her heart in the places she visits, and then moves on to the next destination. It’s been thrilling to live in some of the most beautiful places on Earth in the past decade—Prague, Buenos Aires, Marseille, Vancouver, Mexico City, Boston…—but LA’s the home I don’t have any urge to leave. Living in LA is like living in a small version of the world where every day I can wander to different places, taste different flavors, get to know different people, and fall in love again and again with the city’s diversity and excitement. It’s the only place I’ve lived in where I don’t mind not having a planned trip in mind since everything here is within a short drive away: beaches, mountains, deserts, and city life.
Despite spending one year of being home-bound due to the pandemic, we’ve managed to settle down in LA and become true Angelenos: we’ve purchased a condo, we’ve met and made friends with some truly amazing people, we’ve found our favorite restaurants, hiking trails, neighborhoods… I’ve had opportunities to join multiple Hollywood movies, TV shows, commercials, music videos… and work alongside such celebrities as Ashton Kutcher, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Reese Witherspoon, Riley Keough (Elvis Presley’s granddaughter), Maya Rudolph, Jean Smart, etc. LA’s also the place that’s pushed me to finally start driving, and I’ve even become comfortable driving 2+ hours a day (still not on the highways though).
For endless reasons, it’ll be hard for us to leave LA at the end of this month. We’re relocating to Silicon Valley where Miguel’s been offered an amazing job opportunity. We’re going to live in Sunnyvale, which has been ranked the safest US city. Our lifestyle will definitely change—we plan to walk more and bike regularly again as we did in Vancouver. As a writer, I’m excited to start writing a new chapter. As a project manager, I’m looking forward to laying out a project plan for our new life. I just wish I could bring my friends with us to the new city. Leaving people behind has always been the toughest aspect of moving for us. But we realize how lucky we are to have each other—our love is the comforting constant that will help us go through it all.
