Objective: Phellinus linteus, a
rare medicinal
fungus, contains the bioactive ingredients that have useful activities such as anti-tumor, prevention and treatment of
cancer, rejuvenation. Besides, antioxidant effects of polysaccharides of Phellinus linteus have been
evidenced. However,
there are very few researches for polysaccharide compounds in Vietnam. The purpose of this
study was to evaluate the antioxydant activity and the free radical scavenging
effect of polysaccharide extracted from Phellinus linteus.

Methods: Phellinus linteus was offered by Linh chi Vina Co, Ltd.
Extraction and purification of polysaccharide fractions were carried out by
exchanged ion resin DEAE-cellulose column. The free radical
scavening effect on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical tests of crude polysaccharide and
polysaccharide fractions were performed.

Results: IC50
values of
polysaccharide A, B,
B11 and B16 were 284.19 µg/ml,
220.44 µg/ml, 664.96 µg/ml and 194.76 µg/ml, respectively.

Conclusion: Crude
polysaccharide and polysaccharide fractions
extracted from Phellinus
linteus had antioxidant effects.

Key words: Phellinus linteus, polysaccharide, antioxidant activity.
