Have you ever stared at a zipper catalogue and gone confused?

Zippers vary largely in terms of their Teeth, Size, Style, Functionality they are intended for, etc. There are so many choices available in the types of zippers that it can leave you confused especially if it is your first time purchasing zippers in the zipper world.

Today we would like to share three types of special zippers that may confuse you easily in spite of their unique functionalities and designs, that is, Reverse Coil Zipper, Concealed Zipper and Reversible Zipper.

Reverse Coil Zipper
Are the teeth/elements of the zipper visible? If the FRONT SIDE of the zipper along with its teeth, slider and puller is completely visible, then that is a regular coil zipper.

If the coil on the same zipper is shown on the REVERSE SIDE, with the slider working on the flatter side of the zipper, then that is a reverse coil zipper (a variation of the coil zipper).

The stitching on the reverse coil zipper can be seen on the FRONT SIDE and its slider allows a wide range of pullers. Reverse coil zippers can be used for water resistant or waterproof functionalities with PVC or rubber coating involved.

Concealed Zipper
A standard invisible zipper that is most commonly used in women’s skirts or dresses is also referred to as a concealed zipper, whose elements are hidden behind the tape.  0nly the zipper tab is visible in this kind of zipper and its small slider allows a limited range of zipper pullers.

This type of zipper creates a clean finish when sewn into the seam of a skirt or dress. Looking closely at the concealed zipper, you’ll find various pleats on the zipper tape. These pleats allow the sewer to do better sewing along the seam line. Concealed zippers often use lace tapes which are lighter.

Reversible Zipper
Though reversible and reverse sound alike, the reversible zipper is a lot different from a reverse coil zipper.

Unlike the reverse coil zipper that doesn’t show its teeth from the FRONT, the reversible zipper is designed to be operated from both the FRONT and BACK sides. Its pull tab has the ability to flip to the other side of the slider along the rotating rail. These zippers are great for reversible projects.
